Abstract
275,222. Meyerhofer, A. F. July 27, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Roasting-furnaces; rotary furnaces.-To avoid local overheating in rotary or other roasting furnaces, the fuel is burnt in contact with the material at several points distributed over the whole or part of the heating-chamber or the fuel is introduced at one or more points to a heating-flue separated by a wall from the chamber containing the material. The invention is shown in Fig. 1 applied to a rotary furnace a into which gas is led by a tube c part of which burns at d while the remainder passes through tube f to nozzles g and h. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which gas or coal dust is introduced by a nozzle d and burns in a tube c out of contact with the material in the annular space e. The tube c may extend throughout the length of the furnace. The burner arrangement shown in Fig. 1 may be applied to the tube c shown in Fig. 2 or to an extended tube. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 3a, the material passes through an inner tube c and is heated by fuel delivered through nozzles f, g, into combustion chambers d, e communicating with the annular space b. Alternatively the fuel nozzles may deliver into the end of the annular space only.
