Abstract
254,755. Welter, A. July 3, 1925, [Convention date]. Soaps that preserve their appearance, shape, and weight are made by mixing with fatty acid until saponification is effected, approximately, but not more than double the amount of pulverized calcined soda required as described in Specification 202,710, adding grain soap or soap paste, and milling. Benzole, toluol, xylol, naphthalene. phenol, cresol, a 150-220 C. fraction of neutral tar oil, or other solvent of fat may be added with the soda, the grain soap, or the soap paste, part of the soda may be replaced by potassium carbonate and 2-10 per cent of the fatty acid by resin. In an example, 300 kilograms of palmkernel oil fatty acids, 300 kilograms of palm oil fattv acids, and 400 kilograms of tallow fatty acids are stirred with 350 kilograms of calcined soda at 30-35 C. The temperature rises spontaneously to 60-65 C., and saponification is complete in a few hours. 600 kilograms of the solid soap produced is ground and mixed with 400 kilograms of liquid grain soap. The product is cut into ribbons, plodded, cut, and pressed. In a second example the fatty acids used are obtained solely from coconut or palm-kernel oil. Any proportion between 10-60 1b. of grain soap to 90--40 1b. of bicarbonate soap may be used; when solvents are present the proportion of grain soap may be reduced to about 7 1b, to 83 of bicarbonate soap.
