Abstract

253,760. Ferruse, L. Sept. 21, 1925. Smiths' forges.-In a smith's forge of the kind comprising a metal casing lined with refractory material, and having a perforated support for the fuel through which the combustion air is distributed, the refractory lining is in the form of a removable bowl. The forge shown is of inverted truncated conical shape, and is fitted with attachments 11 for a chain 12 and with supporting legs 13. Within the metal shell 10 is a removable bowl of earthenware, fireclay, &c., and through the bottom passes air supply pipe 21 which delivers into the space beneath a fire support 17 consisting of a plate with upstanding nipples 19. The spaces around these nipples may be filled with asbestos or other refractory material. The pipe 21 is supported by a brace 26, and is connected to a compressed air supply. Water may also be supplied through the pipe 21 when it is desired to extinguish the fire quickly. The circular distributing-cap 23 may be replaced by a T-head.
