Abstract

253,698. Jenkins, C. E. May 21, 1925. Spray carburettors.-Air under pressure is supplied to carburettors of motor vehicles by the combined action of the motion of the vehicle and of the fan employed for cooling the radiator. A conical pipe a, the base a<1> of which is adjacent the fan, encloses a similarly arranged pipe b, the smaller ends of the pipes terminating in a conical chamber c the outlet c<1> of which faces the air intake of the carburettor. The base a<1> may be provided with an annular scoop a<2> or a shaped flexible band adapted to be adjusted relatively to the blades of the fan. The outlet from the annular space between the pipes may be controlled by a hit-and-miss valve e<1> or an iris diaphragm the actuating arm of which is connected to the throttle valve. In the case of an iris diaphragm, the leaves are made thicker than usual and are supported by a ring against backfiring.
