Cigarette - making machines.-In a continuous-rod machine adapted to produce two parallel cigarette-rods, the hopper 6, Fig. 2<a>, is of double width and is provided with two tobacco shoots 7, 7a, one for each rod. The feeding mechanisms in the two halves of the hopper 6 are driven independently from the main shaft 25 through chain and sprocket mechanism 19 - - 22 and shafts 15, 16, the sprockets 21, 22 being connected to the shafts 15, 16 by clutches 17, 18. The movable members of the clutches 17 18 are actuated respectively by levers 125, 48 connected by pairs of levers with axially slidable rods 34, 57. As shown in Fig. 1, duplicate rod formers 9, 9<a>, pasting-apparatus 10, 1O<a>, sealing apparatus 11, 11<a>, and rod-guides 12, 12<a> of ordin. ary construction are provided. A rotary-disc cutter 81 of known construction and driven from shaft 25 is adapted to sever both rods simultaneously. Of the belt pulleys 42, 68, the pulley 42 is driven by a shaft 41 connected to the main shaft 25 by a worm and worm wheel gearing 44 through a gear box 102, the drive being through a clutch 40 the movable member of which is actuated by a bell-crank lever 35 from the rod 34; the pulley 68 is driven by a tubular shaft 67 surrounding the shaft 41, and driven therefrom through gearing 65 and a countershaft 64, a clutch 63 operated' by a bell-crank lever 59 from the rod 57 being provided on this shaft. The rods 34, 57 are actuated respectively by levers 45, 70 having handles 47, 72. The pasting mechanisms 10, 10<a> are driven through gearing from the shaft 25 and are connected to their driving shafts through clutches actuated by levers 74, 77.
