Abstract

Cylinder ends, putting into communication. - Comprises an arrangement of pressure equalizing valves for connecting together the ends of locomotive cylinders when running under no-load conditions, characterized in that the valves, each of which comprises a body or seat part e and a counter-piston f, are arranged with the counterpistons situated between the seat parts e, the counter-pistons being subjected on one side h' to air pressure or the atmosphere through a port k', and on the other side to the fluctuating pressures which occur during no-load running. The valve chambers are connected together by a conduit c and each is in communication with a cylinder end through a passage b. The interior space h of each valve is connected through a pipe d with the slide-valve chest or the steam-supply pipe. The valves may be opened positively, when it is desired to keep the cylinder ends in communication, by admitting pressure air through the ports k<1> to act on the counter-pistons.
