Sediment collectors; scum apparatus.-The impurities in boiler water are deposited in a chamber in communication with a scum collector having a number of overflow edges over which the water flows at all positions of the water level. The chamber b placed inside a boiler and opening at the boiler water level has a number of scum collecting funnels a around its open end. The impurities are removed through a pipe c fitted with a valve v, which is connected by a pipe d with the bottom blow-down valve w. An open pipe may lead purified water from the top of the chamber to the bottom of the boiler. The chamber may be placed outside the boiler and connected at the top to scum-collecting funnels and at the bottom to the bottom blow-down valve.
