Abstract

[Class 111] [See also Group XXIX] A settling chamber is provided with one or more overflow outlets for clear liquid which automatically adjust themselves in accordance with the liquid level so that no damming effect arises in the inlet channel. The Figure shows a suitable overflow device comprising a number of telescoping pipes i. The liquid overflows the rim of the innermost pipe n which is directly connected to a float k. As the level of the liquid rises the pipes are successively lifted but the weight of the pipes ensures that the overflow rim is lower in the water so that there is a correspondingly increased discharge. The float acts as a baffle to retain floating matter.
