Counters actuated by electric and magnetic means.-A device for the distant transmission of the registration of one or more counting mechanisms, or electricity or other meters, comprises one or more relays and a continuous and intermittently rotated shaft which upon the energization of one of the relays actuates another shaft driving the distant counting mechanism. As shown applied to an electricity meter, the meter spindle 1, Fig. 2, through gearing 3, 5 drives a disc 6, Fig. 1, having a pin 7 co-operating with a tilting weight 8 adapted to close momentarily the contacts 10, 11, in the circuit of an electromagnet 15. The armature 16 of the electromagnet 15 is loosely mounted on a shaft 17 and carries a spring pawl 19 for actuating a ratchet wheel 18 secured to the shaft 17. The ratchet wheel 18 is advanced on the restoration of the armature to actuate, through a ratchet wheel 27, pawl 28 and gearing 29, 30, the pointer 32, Fig. 3, of the totals counter 31. Withdrawal of the armature 16 is effected by a projection 17<1> on a disc 21 loosely mounted on a shaft 20 driven through gearing 34 from a Ferraris motor 35, the disc 21 being resiliently coupled to the shaft 20 by means of a spring 25 and a pin 26 on the disc engaging a slot 23 in a disc 22 secured to the shaft. If the sum of the readings of the several meters is to be registered each meter has associated with it a unit comprising the parts 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25 mounted on the two shafts 17, 20 the respective discs 21 being so mounted that the projections 17<1> are in staggered relation to prevent simultaneous actuation of the shaft 17.
