Abstract

249,765. Triebart, J. K. E. Oct. 29, 1925. Projectiles. - An antiaircraft shell is made with an inner prismatic or cylindrical primary grenade 1 having longitudinal weakenings 7 in its wall and surrounded by a corresponding number of secondary grenades 6 forming the outer circumference of the shell and held together between the base and the nose of the shell, the inner primary grenade acting as a binding bolt. There may be several rows of secondary grenades. Fig. I shows three such rows secured together by bands 9. The bottoms of the secondary grenades are secured by the socketed end 10 of a disc 8<a> slidably but non- rotatably fitted over the end of the inner primary grenade 1 and clamped by a nut 8. The disc 8<a> carries the driving band 13. The upper end of the primary grenade 1 screws into the base-plate 2 of the nose fuze which is socketed at 10 to secure the tops of the secondary grenades. The various grenades are provided with filling plugs 4, and the secondary grenades with short fuzes 12 for exploding them at various short intervals after they are scattered by the bursting of the primary grenade fired by the nose fuze.
