Abstract

1,039,908. Ammunition projectiles. O. DUNKEL. June 14, 1963 [June 15, 1962], No. 23768/63. Heading F3A. An ammunition projectile comprises a chamber 1, containing a bursting charge, surrounded by chambers 2, 3 containing high explosive, detonation of the bursting charge causing chambers 2, 3 to be thrown from the centre of explosion and to explode after a predetermined time. The bursting charge is detonated by a conical percussion fuze 4, which may have an off-centre apex, Fig. 4 (not shown), and due to the explosion, detonators 11 in chambers 2, 3 are acted on by percussion pins 10. Driving band segments 13 are accommodated within grooves which may be of dovetail section. Chamber 1, as shown in the lower half of Fig. 1, may be flared as at 14. Alternatively, Fig. 2 (not shown), chamber 1 may be a truncated cone with its base adjacent fuze 4 and the surrounding chambers may be transversely subdivided into chambers 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, withpartitions 15 having percussion pin and detonator assemblies 16, 17. The explosive chambers may contain shrapnel 18.
