Abstract
249,743. Janotta, F. June 20, 1925, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Catch gear of mine-cage type.-When the hoisting rope breaks, toothed wheels 2 fixed to shafts 4 are forced against opposite sides of the guide 1 by springs 15 and the consequent rotation of the wheels actuates gearing which causes the shafts 4 to move upwards in oblique slots 5 to tighten the grip of the wheels on the guide. Each shaft 4 is mounted in forked bearings 13 supported by a worm wheel 7 mounted on a threaded shaft 10 pivoted at 12. A worm 6 on the shaft 4 meshes with the worm wheel 7 which is attached to a nut 8. The wheels are normally kept away from the guide by a wedge 3 suspended from the hoisting rope and placed between the shafts 4. A rod 11 in alignment with the shaft 10 is secured to a boss 9 on the bearing 13 and carries a wedge 20. As the bearings rise the wedges 20 act on rollers 21 mounted on beH- crank levers 22 which are mounted on shafts 7 and connected by links 18 to a shaft 4. An eccentric 16 on the shaft 17 engages the guide as the shaft 17 is turned.
