Guards. - A malleable iron or like casing for abra sive and other high-speed wheels liable to burst under centrifugal force, comprises a vertical rear wall rising from a foot A on the bench and continuing as a peri. pheral portion D extending over the top of the wheel C to a point d, an outer side wall F being hinged at a point G to the rear wall and detachably fastened to the portion D by a screw K passing through a lug J. A flange E, extending a certain distance inwards, is preferably provided on the inner side. Ribs forming channels H, M strengthen the hinge G and lug J respectively. The hinged wall F is centrally raised in the form of a cone N merging into a dome L, in order to clear the nuts &c. securing the wheel on its shaft. According to the Provisional Specification, inspection openings may be provided in the hinged wall.
