Abstract
249,188. Richardsons, Westgarth, & Co., Ltd., Morison, R. B., Tucker, R. E., and Evans, H. R., (Representatives of Morion, D. B.), and Burn, W. S. Dec. 12, 1924. Cylinders, ports and liners of, covers for, and cooling.-The centre part 8 of a three-port liner for a double acting cylinder has scavenge-air inlet ports 1 with nozzles 2, which in alternate ports direct the air to opposite ends of the cylinder, and common exhaust ports 5. A casing 10, which is integral with the lower water jacket 9, is mounted on the bed-plate and the upper water jacket 11 is bolted to it or provided with lugs which are attached to extensions of the frame tie-rods; the jacket 11 clamps the centre part 8 of the liner in position. The outer parts of the liner are bolted to the centre part and free to expand at their outer ends. The piston nut 15 has the same diameter as the piston rod, and this causes the clearance spaces at the two ends to be similar annular chambers. Similar water-cooled heads are bolted to the jackets 9, 11, the piston rod gland being arranged outside the head. The Provisional Specification describes (1) a single row of inlet ports which coact with the side of the piston to direct the air to the cylinder ends, and (2) a liner which is constructed in one piece.
