Abstract
248,699. Leonard, N. March 5. 1925. [Convention date]. Casting processes.-In a locomotive or like cast wheel, to avoid the formation of splits in the hub during casting due to the tendency of the spokes to tear away from the hub as the wheel cools, the spokes 5', 5<2> are formed in two series, the spokes 5' being directly joined to the hub and the spokes 5<2> merging into the adjoining spokes 5<1> by branches 20<1>, 20<2>, which provide between them and the hub a triangular free space 21. A similar free space 23 is provided at the rim end of each spoke 5<1>, as shown, and opposite each spoke 5<2>, a gap 25 is formed in the rim 4.
