Abstract

Sights.-The sighting apparatus is carried by a removable stirrup or bridge-piece, extending transversely above or below the gun, hinged to the cradle at one side to turn about an axis parallel to the axis of the barrel, and at the other side connected to the cradle by a screw jack by which it can be cross-levelled. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the sight H, operating mechanism, and range dial K are carried by a bridge-piece E mounted on the cradle B at one side by a shaft B<1> parallel to the barrel axis and at the other side by a screw jack F, G. The sight proper H is carried by a rotatable shaft J mounted within the bridge-piece E and adapted to be rotated by a worm L engaging a worm sector J<2>. Rotation of the shaft rotates the range .dial K through toothed gearing comprising a sector J<1> and a pinion K'. In a modification, the sight can also be rotated for lateral deviation about an axis perpendicular to the shaft J by means of a sliding rod mounted within the shaft J and formed with a cylindrical rack engaging a pinion keyed to the sight.
