Abstract
140,760. Schneider et Cie. March 21, 1919, [Convention date]. Sights.-Relates to independent line of sight mechanism of the kind described in Specification 139,517, in which both the sight and the tangent elevation indicator can be cross-levelled about an axis parallel to the axis of the barrel. According to the invention, the tangent elevation indicator is mounted on the gun cradle on the side opposite to the sight by a cardan joint, one of the axes of which is parallal to the axis of the barrel. The graduated drum of the indicator is geared tu one of the cradle trunnions, while the indicator casing or a plate carrying an index mark is constrained by a transverse slot on a part of the carriage which moves during pointing only. By this construction the angle indicated on the tangent elevation drum is the projection on a vertical plane containing the axis of the barrel, of the angle through which the barrel is turned by its ranging-gear. In the construction shown, the cradle A is mounted by trunnions a, a<1> in an intermediate carriage C. The carriage C. together with the gun and sight, are elevated for pointing by pinions D engaging toothed sectors C<1>. The cradle A is elevated relatively to the carriage C by the ranging-gear comprising a shaft f, bevel-gear F, E<1>, screw E, and nut C<2>. The sight-carrier G is mounted by a cardan joint on the trunnion a, and is cross-levelled about the axis h which remains parallel to the axis of the barrel. The sight-carrier is constrained to move in elevataon with the carriage C by a projection having a ball g resting in a cylindrical socket g<1> carried by the carriage C. The tangent elevation indicator is similarly mounted on the other trunnion, and can be turned into the vertical plane about an axis J which remains parallel to the axis of the barrel. The drum L bearing the tangent elevation scale is geared to the trunnion a<1>, and the casing K carrying an index mark k is constrained by an arm K<1> having a ball end K<2> engaging a transverse guide-slot c projecting from the carriage C.
