Sights.-Relates to sights for anti-aircraft and like guns, carrying (1) a member on which are drawn graphs for different ranges representing the variation of tangent elevation with angle of sight, and (2) a reader co-operating with said member and adjustable according to the angle of sight, and consists in mechanism whereby, as the sights are moved to follow the target, the angle of sight and the corresponding tangent elevation determined from the graph-carrying member are communicated to the gun from different hand-wheels through a differential gear, In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the sights are carried on a bracket 4 looselv mounted on the cradle-trunnions 2 and adapted to be rotated to follow the target in elevation by a hand-wheel 10 driving a sleeve 7 through worm gearing. The motion of the handwheel 10 is communicated to the gun to elevate it for angle of sight, through gearing comprising a pinion 12 mounted on an extension of the sleeve 7 and meshing with a pinion 13 on a shaft 14 carrying one of the bevel-wheels 15 of a differential gear, the pinion 18 of which is carried on a frame 17 rigid with a sleeve 16 carrying a worm 18<a> engaging with teeth on a bracket 5, which is similar to the bracket 4, but is fixed to the gun cradle 3. Mounted on the pedestal of the gun, and rotatable by the hand-wheel 25, is a drum d' upon which are engraved graphs a<1> representing different ranges and obtained by plotting angles of sight as abscissĀµ (parallel to the axis) against the corresponding tangent elevations as ordinates. A reader g' carried by a slidable rod 11 is adapted to be set automatically with reference to the drum to indicate the angle of sight as the hand-wheel 10 is rotated, owing to the screw engagement shown between the rod 11 and sleeve 7. The gun is elevated for the range corresponding to the angle of sight thus communicated to the pointer g', by operating the hand-wheel 25 to rotate the drum d<1> until the graph a<1> corresponding to the given range coincides with the pointer g' this rotation is communicated to the gun to elevate it for tangent elevation by gearing comprising an idle wheel 22 meshing with internal teeth on the drum d<1>, and with a pinion 21 on a shaft 20 carrying the other bevel-wheel 19 of the afore-mentioned differential gear.
