Speed indicators operating by sighting aerial objects; velocity components, measuring. - Consists in modifying the anti-aircraft gunnery apparatus described in the parent Specification by utilizing the sighting-telescopes of the gun as the telescopes of the speed measuring apparatus, the corrections in these telescopes being effected directly without taking readings. The invention involves a modification of the apparatus for graphically determining the product of the angular speed and the time of flight. The drawing shows only the apparatus for measuring and correcting for the zenithal angular speed. The sight L is mounted on the gun cradle, and is elevated with it. The elevating-gear, operated by the handle A, is connected through differential gear D to a screw V which traverses a fork B in which is mounted a rotating drum C. The drum C is rotated at a regular speed by clockwork and is marked by a fixed stylus F so that a curve of the angle of site in time functions is produced. A pointer F-G, pivoted at F, is set tangential to this curve by operating a screw H which is adjustably mounted so that its distance above the point F can be made proportional to the time of flight, thus the number of turns given to the screw H counting from the position in which F-G is vertical, measures the product of the angular speed and the time of flight. This product is the required sighting correction, and it is applied to the sight by a flexible shaft K. The screw H is connected by bevel gearing to the differential gear D to ensure that the transversing movement of the drum C is proportional to the movement of the sight in space.
