Abstract

374,930. Anti-aircraft gun sights. RHEINISCHE METALLWAAREN-UND MASCHINENFABRIK, ROMBERG, H., and OTTO, C., 195, Ulmenstrasse, Deren. dorf, D³sseldorf, Germany. March 16, 1931, No. 8027. [Class 92 (ii).] Relates to anti-aircraft sighting devices in which, after preliminary adjustments to suit-observed data, the act of laying the sight on the target automatically imparts to the gun the desired lead angle. The invention particularly relates to devices in which a telescopic rod d parallel to the sight g is universally jointed at d<1> to an arm b parallel to the gun, the free end of the rod being vertically adjustable for tangent angle of elevation and radially adjustable with respect to a plate e to suit the range, speed, and direction of flight of the target. According to the invention, the free end d<2> of the rod d is ball-jointed to a slide f<1> adapted for radial movement in a guide l which can be set by turning an indicator m into the direction of movement of the target, and vertically adjusted to suit the tangent angle of elevation by means of a screw operated by turning a graduated sector k into register with a pointer a<8>. Further, the plate e secured to the guide l carries curves, Fig. 7, which enable a pointer f<0>, Fig. 6a, on the slide to be set to a radius depending on the range and speed of the target. To effect this, the plate e is first turned until the radial line corresponding to the range registers with the pointer f<0>, the slide f<1> being then moved radially by rotating a pinion o<2> by means of a hand-wheel o until the pointer f<0> is on the curve corresponding to the observed speed of target. To prevent training movements of the gun from affecting the direction imparted to the guide l by the indicator m, the guide is connected to the training ring through a clutch q and gearing p<2>, p<1>. The sight is connected with the rod d by parallel-motion links h controlled by a link h<1> to keep the sight in a position convenient to the observer. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the graduated plate is fast with the guide l the slide carrying a measuring edge fo<1> which is movable radially to register with the appropriate intersection between the range lines and the speed curves.
