Abstract
339,322. Tristram, G. H., and Buckle, C. May 31, 1929. Divided on 339,294. Gunnery-calculators; computing- scales. - Fuze-prediction apparatus for use with anti-aircraft guns comprises a pivoted sight h which at any chosen zero time can be set with respect to a sector plate a to give the angle of sight, the eye-piece being rotatable to give the clock-course of the target on a dial h<2>. This setting is then adjusted to predict a future angle of sight for the observed clockcourse and an assumed target speed. The fuze necessary for the future target position is then predicted by introducing adjustments for the height and true speed of the target. Figs. 1 and 2 show opposite sides of the sector plate a to which the sight h is pivoted at d so as to be adjusted on the target by operating a handwheel i. Fig. 1 shows one side of the sector plate provided with curves o giving corrections to the present angle of sight along radial lines representing clock-angles, the future angle of sight being read by a mark k<1> on a scale k<2> when a pointer i<3>, geared to the mark k<1>, is set by a handwheel i<4> to the appropriate clock-angle curve as read on the dial h<2>. The other side of the sector plate, Fig. 2, has fuze curves l<5> which are read in conjunction with a height scale p by a pointer r when a mark l<2> adjustable for true speed of target is moved along one of a number of angle-of-sight correction curves l<4> on a fixed plate l. The future angle of sight, future fuze, and clock-course obtained from the apparatus are used to set the clock-code plotter described in Specification 339,294, and the speed of the target is preferably obtained by the apparatus described in Specification 339,361.
