Abstract
248,455. Stone & Co., Ltd., J., and Vidal, J. F. B. Dec. 3, 1924. Securing globes and shades to galleries and holders.- The rim of a globe or shade of an electric, gas, or oil lamp is engaged by an expansible ring provided with means for engaging a gallery or holder and also with secondary means for locking it to the gallery or holder. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the concave rim of a globe l is engaged by a split ring f of thin strip steel of correspondingly curved cross-section and provided at its ends with a pair of outwardly projecting ears or lugs g, g<1> about in the plane of the lower edge of the ring and with a similar lug diametrically opposite, the two sets of lugs being adapted to pass through corresponding gaps d, d<1> in the preferably undulating or cam-like flange c of a recess b formed around the edge of the holder a carried by a wall bracket u, the ring f being of slightly greater depth than the recess b. The ring f is also provided with intermediate projections i, which may extend a little beneath the plane of the lower edge of the ring so that, when the ring f is given a partial turn by means of the finger pieces formed on the projections i, the lugs pass over the upper surface of the flange to engage the ring and globe with the holder whilst the projections i move around in contact with the under surface of the flange and snap into shallow recesses k formed in the flange by means of the gaps d, d<1> so as to lock the ring to the holder. More than two gaps and two sets of lugs may be used, and the holder may be cast or comprise a pressing or spinning of sheet metal and may be vitreous enamelled, plated, polished or otherwise ornamented. In two modified forms the expansible ring may be locked to the holder either by means of upwardly bent lugs i<1> snapping into bayonet slots m in the holder a<1>, or by means of lugs i<2> bent back upon themselves to form resilient hooks or catches n adapted to snap into slots o in the holder a<2>, as shown in Figs. 6 and 8 respectively. In all forms the locking of the expansible ring to the holder is arranged to take place simultaneously with the termination of the tightening movement of the ring. In a further modification the ring f<3> is made of channel or other suitable cross-section and portions of the flange q of the ring have spring tongues r pressing resiliently upon the globe rim p as shown in Fig. 9.
