Abstract
248,449. Hadfield, G. H. Dec. 2, 1924. Refuse, dust-bin, treating.-House refuse after collection and in some cases after preliminary sifting or separation of metal and decayable parts is mixed with water and the mixture is forced by a pump to classifying or separating apparatus or to storage bins. A collecting van a tips the rubbish on to a double screen c, d. which separates it into three products. The material retained by the screen c, consisting of paper, tins, bottles &c., passes on to a travelling belt e for hand-picking. The combustible parts may be burned and utilized to generate electricity. The material retained by the screen d and that which passes through it fall down hoppers g, h into water. The mixture of water and small pieces of coke and clinker and dust from the hopper g is pumped by a pump j to draining-bins which separate water and dust and leave a material suitable for use in making mortar or partition blocks or for separation into coke and clinker. The larger material from the hopper h is, in admixture with water, raised by a pump m to a separator n utilizing clay suspension and is separated into coke for use as fuel and clinker. In separating the ingredients of old deposits of house refuse, the material together with water may be raised directly by a pump. Specification 24054/03 is referred to.
