Abstract
368,421. Amalgamating hydrocarbon oils and coal. TRENT, W. E., 17, Battery Place, New York, U.S.A. Dec. 15, 1930, No. 37819. [Class 50.] Coal is purified and amalgamated with hydrocarbon oils by subjecting the produced coal to agitation with oil in the presence of water which serves to separate the ash, the amalgamated bodies being then subjected to further agitation in the presence of fresh water to eliminate additional quantities of ash. Coal, powdered to pass through a sieve of 200 meshes per square inch, is fed through a conduit 1 to an amalgamator 2, to which oil and water are supplied through pipes 3, 4, the oil being in the proportion of 12 to 13 per cent by weight of the carbonaceous content of the coal. Small plastic masses of 1/32 to 1/16 inch are formed by action of paddles 5, arid these masses together with the water containing ash flow into a receiver 7, and are carried as a conveyer 9 and delivered into a hopper 11 which feeds a second amalgamator 12. Fresh water is supplied through a pipe 14, and the plastic bodies adhere, and form larger masses of “ to 1 inch diameter which may be formed into briquettes. These larger masses are carried on a screen 15 to a container 16, ash and water being discharged through a pipe 17. Specifications 151,236 and 293,454, [both in Class 50, Fuel, Manufacture of], are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 293,454.
