Abstract
380,196. Separating solid materials ; feeding granular materials. SIMONCARVES, Ltd., 20, Mount Street, Manchester, and ADAMS, V. H., Tygwyn Mellor, Derbyshire. July 11, 1931, No. 19953. [Classes 59 and 117.] In the removal of dust from coal, the material is caused to progress over a substantially horizontal bed having a series of transverse slits, and is simultaneously subjected to the passage of a current of air &c. which carries away the dust and deposits it in a separate collector. The apparatus described for carrying out the invention consists of a bed 4, Fig. 1, formed of overlapping curved plates pivoted at 18 and connected to a common bar for simultaneous adjustment. The bed is enclosed at the top and bottom by casings 2, 3 and an upward air current is provided by a fan 1. The dust carried off is discharged through a settling chamber 7 and conveyer 8 and the clean air may be returned to the fan to complete a closed circuit. The material is fed from a hopper 12 and the bed is reciprocated by an eccentric 11 to cause the movement of the material through the separating area. A baffle-plate 15 with a hinged flap 16 is mounted in the upper casing at the discharge end of the bed. In a modification, the bed may be formed of prismatic bars disposed so that the slits which may be curved, linear, or of irregular formation taper upwardly. Fig. 4 shows a modified device for feeding or discharging the material under treatment and consisting of a duct 24 having two oppositely acting shutters 25 actuated by a lever 29 driven through a crank 30 and a bracket 31 from the bed 4.
