Abstract

248,371. Elder, D. Feb. 28, 1925, [Convention date]. Jet nozzles; nozzles with cut-off devices.-A spray-producer for giving an even distribution of water over an area of semicircular or quadrant shape so that it may be used at the edge or corner of a lawn to spray the surface missed by a circular sprayer, comprises a closed cylindrical tube 1, Fig. 3, having a V-shaped gap 3 in the side the upper wall 4 of the gap being curved towards its side edges. If a semicircular distribution is required the end of the gap terminates just clear of the bore; if however a quadrant shaped area is to be sprayed the depth of the gap is correspondingly shortened. The gap may first be cut by a rotary cutter into the form shown in Fig. 3 and the corner filled in by metal wedges 6, Fig. 4. The nozzle may be fitted to a ground level valvular spraying device controlled by the water pressure, in which case it extends through a cylindrical casing 7, Fig. 1, screwed in a T piece 8 and has at the top a mushroom valve 19 fitting a seating 9 formed in the casing 7. The inner end of the nozzle screws into a cylindrical nut 10 against which bears a spring 11. The nozzle may also be mounted in a nut to screw on a fixed or rotary standard sprayer.
