Description

L. J. BAUM July 3, 1934.
NOZZLE TIP Filed June 30, 1935 dam mm Patented July 3, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in nozzle tips for fire hose, garden hose' and liquid sprays of all kinds.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a nozzle tip for sprayers having adjustable means for regulating the discharge of water therefrom, whereby the size of the stream of water discharged may be changed, as may be desired.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above-mentioned character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1, is a side view of the nozzle tip with the outer end in section to show my invention,
Fig. 2, is a cross section taken on lines 2-2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3, is a cross section taken on lines 3-3 of Fig. 1, and,
Fig. 4, is an end view of the same.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5, denotes the body portion of the nozzle tip having internal screw-threads 6 at its inner end, for connecting the nozzle to a fire hose nozzle or the like. The body portion is gradually reduced towards its outer end, forming a restricted discharge passage 7, which opens into the eccentrically arranged enlargement 8. The enlargement 8 is provided with external screw-threads 9 to receive the screw cap 10 which covers the outer end and rotatably mounted on the inner side end of said bore, a valve disk rotatably mounted of the cap is a valve disk 11 having a series of various size apertures 12, arranged concentric to the axis of the disk, adapted to register with the discharge opening 13 in the cap. The valve disk 11 is mounted on the inner end of the pin 14 journaled in the bearing 15 through the center of the cap and attached to the outer end of the pin is a finger knob 16, whereby the valve disk is turned.
In operation, the stream of water discharged from the nozzle tip may be regulated by turning the valve disk 11, to bring the different size apertures 12 into register with the discharge opening 13 of the cap. In this way the nozzle tip can be adjusted to deliver a solid stream of Water or a fine spray.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes in the shape, size and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
A nozzle tip comprising a body having a longitudinal bore therethrough tapered towards its discharge end, a circular enlargement formed at the tip of the body and eccentric therewith, providing a large water receiving chamber communicating with the discharge end of said bore, a cap threaded on the outer end of said enlargement adjustable longitudinally to alter the size of said chamber, said cap having a discharge opening in alinement with the discharge on the inner side of said cap having a series of difierent size apertures and means for turning said valve disk to bring said apertures into register with the discharge opening of said cap.
