Abstract

247,820. Snyder, J. G. June 24, 1925. Chains with adjustable or separate jaws; sleepers, metal. - A base plate 8, Fig. 2, secured to the sleeper 1 is slotted at each end to receive a bolt 7 which secures the rail clamp 16 and has its head 6 received in a groove formed by a central depression 3 in the sleeper. The slot in the plate 8 may extend throughout the plate and has opposite notches 12, 13, Fig. 8, which may be square or dovetailed to receive a corresponding projection 24, Fig. 9, on the clamp 16. A series of dovetail notches may be provided for adjustment of the clamps. For track-circuit work, the sleeper may be made in halves 1', 1<11>. Fig. 5, with their ends interfitting and separated by insulation 28 used also around the rivets. To prevent damage, the sleeper edges overlap the insulation.
