Power hammers; stamping and embossing.- Sheet metal is stamped or embossed by centrifugal strikers carried by a support which is periodically raised to allow displacement of the sheet. The strikers c, Fig. 7, are mounted in a rotating member b so as to be capable of moving towards the axis a, and also of rotating through a limited angle if desired, when in contact with the work. The member b is mounted in a support e pivoted at f and counterbalanced by a weight h. Springs r<1>, Fig. 5, may be arranged behind the strikers to damp the vibration or the bearings s, Fig. 4, carrying the member b, may be arranged in slots t in the bent end of the support e and pressed down by springs r. The member b may be rotated by stepped pulleys or variable-speed friction gearing m, n, Fig. 1. The table i has a removable part of wood, hard rubber, sand bags, steel or the like and is vertically adjustable. The support e may carry rubber-tipped adjustable spring-pressed clamping- arms 5, Fig. 7, and is intermittently raised, to release the clamps and withdraw the strikers, by a slowlv driven cam 3 on a fixed axis 2.
