Abstract
A floating plant cultivation platform7for growing sunflowers1for biomass fuel comprises a wedge of expanded polystyrene. The slope of the wedge may be 17° to the horizontal. The sloping top of the wedge has channeled waterways. The top may also have growing medium3and reflective sheeting4which is held in place by spikes. The sunflowers1are supported by rods2positioned in the wedge. The wedge may be fixed to a wooden lattice frame. A wind-powered vane- type pump10may be used to pump water from a water storage tank8to a reservoir9.
Description
Vegetation Station This invention relates to Biomass fuel production at sea.
With the current depleting oil/fuel resources and the increasing population of mankind we are constantly requiring more use of energy resulting in higher carbon emissions and resulting in evident climate change.
The current solutions developed for renewable fuel sources i.e. wind turbines, solar energy and tidal power are all good ideas in their own right but all have a common fault of not being able to be produced on a large enough scale due to start up costs and logistics.
Mankind is constantly developing the land for buildings and roads, creating a reduction in the potential area s worldwide for the possibilities of growing a renewable fuel source and for this reason we need to now not only work the land but also work the oceans and seas.
Using my invention in to grow oils at sea can result in a positive solution to ocean warming, increased ocean acidity as well as reducing C02 levels within the atmosphere.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings that are not to scale in which: Figure 0-Shows the basic requirements of growing on water Figure 1 -2.5 -Shows the basic requirements of growing on water with modification for optimum harvesting Figure 3-3.12 -Shows a fully automated Vegetation Station Drawing 1/7 Figure 0-Floating wedge shaped polystyrene base 1 on which sunflowers 2 are grown using rod supports 3 during growth Drawing 2/7 Figure 1 Floating wedge shaped polystyrene base 1 angled with a gradient of 17 degrees on which sunflowers 2 are grown using supports 3 during growth Drawing 3/7 Figure 2 Floating wedge of polystyrene 6 at a gradient 7 of 17 degrees on which water ways are channelled 8 to aid water/nutrient flow on top of which is placed a growing medium i.e. glass fibre spreader mat or rock wool 3 which is covered by a reflective sheeting 4 and pinned in place by pegs 5 to feed sunflower 1 with nutrients and water and supported during growth by 2 Drawing 4/7 Figure 2.5 A cut through section of figure 2 showing 1 a polystyrene base with channelled waterways 2 on top is growing medium 3 covered by reflective sheeting 4 held in position by spikes 7 to create growth of sunflowers 6 and being supported by 5 Drawing 5-7 Figure 3 Floating structure consisting of a wooden lattice base as shown in figure 3.12 on which a wedge shaped polystyrene base is placed 7 on which sunflowers 1 are grown and supported during growth by 2 using reflective sheeting 3 and growing medium 4 enclosed a protected from wind and sea by5 with a nutrient water return pipe 6 to the water storage tank 8 from which water is drawn by a wind powered turning vane type pump 10 into reservoir 9 to supply water and nutrients to storage tank 8 Figure 3.10-Detailed workings of the water system for vegetation station. Wind sails 1 rotate turning vane 2 to transport water/nutrients 3 into reservoir 4 to supply water to sunflowers via spouts 6 and restricted to a maximum fill level within the reservoir by overflow pipe 5
