Abstract

246,633. Birks, W. H. Dec. 11, 1924. Furnaces.-A jointlees firebox 10, Fig. 7, of rectangular cross-section and with radiating ribs 9 in its crown is formed by repeatedly pressing a round plate in dies until it attains the form of a thimble or bucket, and is then pressed by a square plunger 5, Fig. 6, into a square die 4, the end of the plunger and the bottom of the die being formed with corresponding radial ribs 8. The base 6 of the die is yieldingly held by the piston of an hydraulic cylinder.
