Abstract

Night catches and like spring locks.-A levercontrolled spring-bolt is held in latching position till the door is slammed by a pawl 13 pivoted on the bolt and engaging a notch in the innermost lock-lever 4. The pawl 13 has a spring arm or extension 16 which is pressed up by the bit of the key as the key is turned to unlock the bolt. When the door is slammed a pawl drops by gravity away from the lever or if the bolt is a vertical one a small spring is employed. The bolt may be used as an ordinary latch by moving an arm 18 in a slot 19 against a second spring 17 on the pawl so that the pawl is maintained in contact with the lever 4. Instead of the spring 17 and arm 18, a sliding catch engaging a slot in the bolt as described in Specification 210,907 may be used. The bolt may also be operated by a handle.
