Abstract

246,197. Jones, J. T. Oct. 7, 1924. Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-A directionindicator for road vehicles comprises a casing a of triangular form which has a coloured glass or lens a<4> and is adapted to be rotated in a bearing a' by a Bowden wire h passing over a pulley g attached to the boss a' of the casing. The casing may be rotated by chains working on toothed wheels or by gear wheels. The casing is illuminated at night by a lamp b which is located within the boss a<6> and is mounted on the casing c. The casing is operated by a control wheel d, Figs. 3 and 4, rotatably mounted on a casing e<2> and having attached thereto a pulley e over which pass the Bowden wires h. The pulley e is held in any set position by a cruciform-shaped projection e<x> which co-operates with four V- shaped notches on a spring-controlled plunger f mounted in a sleeve e<4> formed on the back-plate e<3> of the casing e<2>. A stop e<7> on the pulley engages a pivoted catch k in the extreme positions of the wheel d. The wheel d has a triangular aperture d<4> through which may be seen words corresponding to the positions of the signal casing. In the preferred arrangement, a signal casing is mounted both at the front and rear of the vehicle.
