Filters having sheet filteringmaterials. - Apparatus for altering liquids particularly such as are to be used for the spinning of artificial silk, consists of a plurality of filters e, e<1> mounted on a rotatable base n, which is itself supported on a stationary carrier d, the base and carrier being provided with passages such that according to the relative positions of these two parts the individual filters may be put into communication with the inlet and outlet passages b, b<1> as in normal working, or they may be cut off entirely, or a filter which has become clogged may be cleaned by the passage of liquid in the reverse direction. The filtering elements may be in the form of cartridges f, f<1>, held in place by nuts w, the whole being enclosed by sealed covers e, secured by nuts w.
