Abstract
1,022,293. Filters. R. J. STEVENS. Oct.16, 1963 [July 18, 1962], No. 27516/62. Headings BID and BIT. A filter comprises a plurality of superposed metal plates 1 in spaced relationship, a peripheral side edge of each plate being toothed or otherwise formed to increase the filtering area. A plurality of such filters may be arranged in interleaving relationship to form a filter unit enclosing a central passage. Fig 2 (not shown), the plates may be held in alignment by rods 2 which pass through plates 12 and 13 within a housing 8, an annulus 20 locating the unit centrally of a chamber 7 within the housing. Fluid to be filtered passes through an inlet 10 and through spaces 25 and 26 into the central passage and further through the spaces between the plates to the outlet 11, contaminants 5A being intercepted at the edges of the teeth. The ends of the plates may be bent through an angle to provide spacing between the plates or each plate may have bent up parts adjacent the rods 2. The edges of the teeth may be formed with a lip, and the plates may be reinforced by ribs 27. The filter unit of Fig. 2 is removable for cleaning by a handle 19 when a lid 21 of the housing is removed. The fluid may be heated by a steam chamber 22.
