Abstract

1446582 Filters T Y CRASTER 28 June 1973 30864/73 Heading BID A sand filter tank 1 has a removable valve 7, 8 rotatable between filtering and backwashing positions. In the filtering position, contaminated liquid is passed to bed 18 via inlet 80, pipe 14 and reticulated or perforated member 40 and filtered liquid is discharged via drain chamber 35, perforated or reticulated member 36 and flexible riser 17 to outlet 10. In the backwashing position, cleaning liquid is passed to bed 18 via inlet 80, riser 17, member 36 and chamber 35 and the cleaning liquid is discharged from bed 18 via member 40, pipe 14 and outlet 9 which includes a plate 38 restricting its cross-section. The cup-shaped member 36 may be positioned in an upright position with a deflecting plate over its mouth. The bed 18 is supported on screen 20 clamped to apertured plate 21. The bottom of the tank 1 is provided with a removable cover plate 6.
