Abstract

1343893 Filtering and sterilising STAGE STIRLING Ltd 5 Feb 1971 3999/71 Heading BID A combined filter and sterilising device for removing solid particles from a fluid and sterilising the fluid comprises a housing 2 having an inlet 3 in its side and an outlet 7 in its base, the outlet leading to a downstream pump. Mounted in the housing is an inward flow filter cartridge 1 comprising a plastics foam sleeve 6 around a perforated tube 4, the tube 4 being in communication with outlet 7. Mounted on top of the filter cartridge is a sterilising device 8 comprising a cylindrical casing 9 with a removable top 10. The casing is formed with a water inlet opening 11 in its side and carries an internal sleeve 12 which has a corresponding opening 13 in its side and which is turnable so as to enable the degree of register of the holes (and hence the inlet flow) to be adjusted. The casing contains a chlorine tablet 14. Most fluid flows from inlet 3 to outlet 7 through the filter sleeve 6, some fluid, however, by-passes the filter and flows via openings 11, 13 and over to chlorine tablet 14 to reach the outlet. An opening 15 is formed in the top of casing 10 so that if waves break over the top of the device then they may enter the steriliser by this opening and thus increase the fluid throughput. The use of such a device in a swimming pool filtration and sterilization unit is described and claimed in Specification 1,343,894.
