1343894 Swimming pools STAGE STIRLING Ltd 5 Feb 1971 4000/71 Heading A4N [Also in Division B1] A swimming pool filtration and sterilization unit comprises a housing 1, Fig. 2, connected by inlet duct 4 to a surface level L outlet 2a of the pool and having an outlet 11 for filtered water which leads back to the pool via a pump. Arranged in the inlet 4 is a weir-type skimmer float 5 which prevents the entry of large floating objects, further solids being removed by plastics strainer basket 6. The interior of the housing contains a pair of inward flow filter cartridges 8 mounted in parallel and each having a removable sterilization unit 15 mounted therein. The filter units each comprise a perforated tube 7 surrounded by a plastics foam-sleeve 10. The sterilization units comprise a cylindrical casing 16, Fig.4, having a removable top 17 and separated from the interior of the tube 7 by a plastics mesh screen 18. The casing has an opening 19 in its side wall and contains an internal sleeve 20 also formed with an opening 21 and which is turnable so as to enable the two openings to be brought into a desired degree of register. The casing contains a chlorine tablet 22. In use, the majority of the water entering housing 1 passes to outlet 11 by flow through filter sleeve 10, some water, however, by-passes the filter sleeve and flows by way of openings 19, 21 and over chlorine tablet 22 to the outlet. A further opening 23 is formed in the top of the casing and a further opening is also formed in the top of housing 1 so that if the water in the pool becomes agitated and waves break over the top of the unit then the rate of water passing through the unit is automatically increased.
