Abstract

Apparatus of the type comprising a plurality of annular filter units has each unit 15, Fig. 1, (not shown), disposed with clearance within an annular baffle 10, the units and baffles being mounted with their axes parallel and spaced apart within a casing 1, the interior of each unit communicating with an outlet port 7 in the casing and the annular space between each unit and its associated baffle communicating through a tube plate 6 with an inlet port 8 in the casing; the apparatus also has a reflux port 9 in the casing and a valve member 23, 25 movable across the surface of the tube plate on the inlet side selectively to connect the annular spaces with the reflux port.
