Abstract

Inclined trough washing-apparatus; upwardcurrent classifiers.-Coal, ores, &c. are separated by passing them in a stream of water along a trough a having a number of outlets b each comprising two adjustably inclined and longitudinally adjustable members c, d forming a passage e leading to a discharge chamber. Each zone of the trough a is provided with a stationary bed of granular material of such size and quality as to retard the passage of the heavier solids carried in the water stream from a preceding bed. A complete plant, Fig. 5, may comprise a number of such troughs O, S, T, V, associated with screens of varying mesh and with currents and countercurrents of adjustable strengths.
