Abstract

245,704. Mackintosh, E. V., and French, C. Oct. 24, 1925. Diaphragms; loudspeakers. - A conical diaphragm for use as a loud speaker and of the kind which is clamped at the periphery, is made of light material reinforced by the application of material of the same or different character in the form of strips, applied to the surface of the diaphragm for the purpose of adding rigidity thereto. The conical paper &c. diaphragm 1 is connected at 2 to the reed or armature 3 and has its edge fixed at 1<a> to a cardboard &c. cylinder 4 mounted on the back 5 of a case a, so that the back 5, cylinder, diaphragm and magnet system can be removed en bloc from the case. The diaphragm is reinforced by radial and substantially concentric strips 6 of cane or bamboo in the manner described in Specification 230,552. The edge of the diaphragm may be glued to the cylinder 4 or may be clamped thereto at intervals by any suitable detachable or permanent clamping means. The front of the case a has an opening b which may be covered by an ornamental fret as indicated in dotted lines. The cylinder 4 may, however, be used without an external case.
