Electric hot-slates.-A cooking and heating apparatus comprises a cast iron or other frame a fitted with a plurality of fireclay or like bars c abutting against one another, a resistance element or elements d passing transversely through the bars by way of apertures therein. The upper and lower surfaces of the bars may be corrugated. The bars are secured together by bolts e and may be supported on blocks of heat insulating material. In modification the bolts e are omitted and the bars are secured in position by a peripheral flange or clips on the frame a. The ends of the resistance wire are secured to contacts i connected to plugs h.
