Abstract

Pigments are formed from oxides or compounds of lead with oxygen-containing inorganic acids by heating these substances up to about 300 DEG C. with exclusion of air, with organic compounds of a basic or indifferent nature and of high boiling point such as vaseline, paraffin, ceresine, waste lubricant oils, waste anthracene and other hydrocarbons. Tar, pitch, and phenols of any kind may also be used. The lead compounds may be mixed with the liquid organic substances and heated, or the organic substances may be vaporized and passed over the lead compounds. In the latter case, volatile hydrocarbons such as methane may be used. In an example, 100 kg. of litharge is mixed with 3-5 kg. of cylinder oil, vaseline oil or resin oil, and heated to 300 DEG C., air being excluded; a finely-divided grey substance results. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the like treatment of lead compounds in general or raw materials containing them, and water gas and illuminating gas were specified as suitable organic materials. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
