Abstract

244,036. Merck, E. [Firm of], (Assignees of Keussler, O. von). Dec. 8, 1924, [Convention date]. Distilling processes; alcoholic liquids, distilling.-In separating liquids such as alcohol and water by distillation in presence of a third liquid which yields an azeotropic mixture, the distillation is effected under increased pressure. Alcohol of 93.7 per cent strength is distilled in presence of benzol under a pressure of 6 atmospheres. The azeotropic mixture obtained as distillate contains a greater proportaon of water than that obtained under atmospheric pressure and the amount of benzol required is therefore less. Specifications 211,454 and 220,606 are referred to.
