Abstract

Walls are formed of two spaced parts, of which the outer consists of concrete applied to expanded metal or the like and the inner part comprises a framing provided with slabs of cork or other heatinsulating material. Uprights 2 are of double T- section, or consist of a pair of connected angleirons or of a pair of T-section members. The uprights are interconnected by cross-ties and have horizontal bars 6, 7, attached to their inner and outer faces and connected together by ties, such as hooked metal rods 8. The bars 6 and a sheet of expanded metal 18 are embedded in a layer 19 of concrete applied to the exterior of the wall. The concrete is waterproofed by the addition of powdered marine algae. The cork slabs 14 on the inner side of the wall are retained in position by metal strips 15 carried on the slab faces and this facing is provided with a plaster surface 17 have an embedded sheet 16 of metal netting. The joints between tha cork slabs are filled with cork cement. Columns; joist floors.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following :-(a) Uprights which consist of a pair of T-bars or connected anglebars 9 having expanded metal 10 extending between them and embedded in concrete 11, as shown in Fig. 5 (Cancelled), and another form of upright which comprises four parts 11, 12 arranged in hollow form, as shown in Fig. 6 (Cancelled). (b) Cork slabs 21 which rest on the lower flanges of joists 20 of I-form, as shown in Fig. 2 (Cancelled), a filling of concrete 23 being applied to sheets 22 of tarred paper attached to the slabs. A coat of plaster 25 is applied to the lower faces of the slabs and to metal netting 24 attached to the undersides of the joists. These slabs may be prevented from sagging by removable iron strips 27 supported by the joists. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
