Abstract

243,025. Meyer, U. Nov. 15, 1924, [Convention date]. Eliminating effects of disturbing currents; systems employing non-contact-making relays; repeating systems using contact-making, relays.- In a submarine cable provided with a two-core portion extending some distance from each end in order to reduce inductive disturbances, such disturbances are further reduced by providing a repeating relay of any desired type between each two-core portion b and the single-core portion d of the cable. The relay is preferably so dimensioned that the impedances of the double core and single core portions are in the ratio 2 to 1. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the relay comprises a transformer coupling c, of which the ends of the primary winding are connected to the two cores of the portion b, the middle point being earthed, and the secondary winding connects the core of the portion d to earth. Fig. 2 shows a modification employing an auto-transformer connection g between the portions b and d. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of a " voltage-transforming filter circuit " connection. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
