Yarn supply ; bobbin stands.-An initial tension put on the yarn as it passes from a full bobbin is automatically and progressively reduced to compensate for the normal increase in tension due to the supply becoming exhausted. It is stated that stockings and other articles can thus be knitted of a more nearly uniform length and texture than would otherwise be the case. The bobbin is mounted on a plate 7 fixed to a rod 9 slidable vertically in a bearing on a frame 1. This frame is adjustably attached by an arm 2 and screws 3, 6 to a rod 4 of a bobbin carrier 5 of usual type. The weight of the bobbin &c. compresses a spring 12. As the yarn is drawn off, the plate &c. 7 moves up and also pushes up a rod 16 by engagement of an arm 13 under a stop 14, the parts 13, 14 sliding on a rib 17. The upper end of the rod 16 passes through the frame 1 and is provided with a stop 18, a pin 20 on which engages under an arm 21 on a swinging bar 23 pivoted at 25 in the frame. The bar has a number of fingers 22 having yarn eyes 24 and alternating with stationary lugs 26 having eyes 27. The yarn is threaded through the eyes, and as the, supply is reduced the bar 23 is rocked to relieve the initial tension due to the weight of the bobbin &c. In a modified construction, self-threading yarn forks are used in place of the guide eyes 24, 27.
