241,827. Canadian-American Machinery Co., Ltd., (Toronto Type Foundry Co., Ltd.). May 19, 1925. Knurling.-Printing &c. rollers are knurled with pairs of longitudinal ribs of equal height by superposing on the initial knurling operation a second knurling operation. A roller B is knurled in one direction from left to right by the roller A forming unequal ribs B<1>, B<2> and is then knurled from right to left which equalizes these ribs by superposing on them pieces B<3> and B<4> so that when the rag at the edge is ground off the teeth are of equal height. The apparatus shown in plan in Fig. 11 comprises a slide rest carrying two knurling wheels A one on each side of the work and, if desired, second knurling wheels A<4> slightly larger than the wheels A but of the same configuration are mounted just behind the first wheel A. If the second knurling wheels A' are not used, the wheels A are traversed from right to left and back again if the lathe reverses, or if non-reversing the work is released and replaced with the ends exchanged for the superposed cut. The lead screw of the lathe is vertically below the work.
