Thermionic amplifiers and detectors.-An intervalve coupling between a high-frequency amplifier 1 and a detector valve 2, which also provides a method of adjusting regenerative action, consists of a tuned inductance L<2>, which is connected at an intermediate point a through a condenser C' to the plate p<1> of the first valve 1, at another intermediate point 0 to the common filament circuit, at one end b through a condenser C' to the plate p<2> of the second valve, 2, and at the opposite end to the grid g<2> of that valve. The degree of regeneration is controlled by a variable condenser C<4>, and the effect of the interelectrode capacity reaction through the valve 1 may be reduced by connecting a capacity, shown in dotted lines, between the end b of the coil L<2> and the grid g<1>. The arrangement permits the tuning of the receiver to be made independently of the constants of the particular aerial to which it is connected, and anode or grid rectification may beemployed at will.
