Abstract

240,769. Picard, E. June 19, 1925. Condensers.-A variable condenser has its movable plates supported by two parallel plates connected together by uprights, and the fixed plates are supplied by two insulating cross-pieces secured to the uprights by connecting members, the holes in the supporting plates in which certain of the securing screws are engaged being elongated to provide for latitude in adjustment. The movable plates 1 are mounted on a shaft 2 between end plates 3, 4, which are connected by uprights 5. The stationary plates 6 are at each side connected, by soldering or like means, to a block 7 supported by means of a connector 8 on a crosspiece 9 secured to the uprights 5 by connectors 10. The cross-pieces consist preferably of fused quartz or silica, reducing the residual capacity, dielectric losses, and the like, members 11 are provided for mounting the apparatus and are of such a length that none of the metallic parts connected with the coatings will be in contact with the support. The terminals may comprise one of the blocks 7 and a lead soldered to the shaft 2. The members 8, 10 are adjustably secured to the blocks 7 and uprights 5 by screws 14 passing through slots 15 in the members while similar slots 17 are provided in the end plates.
